Mr. MFN eXquire returns from a hiatus with a song called “Noble Drew Ali.” To add some context, the title is inspired by Timothy “Noble Drew Ali” Drew, who founded the Moorish Science Temple of America in the 1920s, a forerunner of the Nation of Islam.

With that in mind, the Brooklyn MC drops knowledge over keys and horn-driven production. Listen closely, and you’ll hear eXquire explains his brief departure from rap and his thoughts on the industry.

“Ain’t no glory with this rapper sh*t/No retribution for the blind, just seek solace in your mind/Prisoner of my thoughts, my morals gon’ be the death of me/Can’t sell records, too much complexity.” Got to applaud the integrity.

“Noble Drew Ali” is the first offering from eXquire’s Kismet tape, said to be out “very shortly” according to his Life is Passion site. The project will feature Danny Brown, Flatbush Zombies and Goldie Glo, Heron, Gorgeous Black and Cokey Briccz, appearing together as The Passion. Fans in the New York City area can see eX debut more of its songs Saturday, May 11, at the Downtown Music Festival.
