By now, Magna Carta Holy Grail has already graced your ears, or inbox, depending on how you got Jay-Z’s latest album. But there wasn’t much known about the hyped and mysterious project until now. One of MCHG’s producers, Timbaland, breaks down some of the action behind the scenes in a recent interview.
Speaking with Revolt.TV on Tuesday (July 2) in a video titled “Timbaland Unlocks The Holy Grail,” Timbo says that after a falling out with Hov, the pair made amends and got right back to work.
“We had a falling out,” shared Timbaland. “It was over petty stuff, it was more personal stuff, and disagreements. It was not no industry related, it was more personal. And I was wrong.”
After patching things up in Brooklyn, the idea of MCHG was born but it wasn’t necessarily planned. Timbaland reveals that while working on track for Jay’s wife, Beyoncé, it became apparent that working on a project would make sense.
“I forced him,” says Timbaland. “I don’t know if we was gonna do no record. It wasn’t about doing a album, the energy in Jungle Studios was so powerful. ‘Cause I was working on B [Beyoncé], I did seven songs on hers.”
Timbo says after showcasing a pair of tracks to Jay, the mogul was inspired to create from that point on. The Virginia native also revealed that he had a hand in helping co-produce other tracks on the album as well.
