The victims have been rushed to various area hospitals for treatment, although conditions were not released publicly. Xinhua News reported that China has vowed to turn all of its law enforcement resources in discovering the impetus behind what they are calling a terrorist attack.

Xinhua News Agency has more:

Chinese president Xi Jinping has urged the law enforcement to investigate and solve the case of Kunming terrorist attack with all-out efforts and punish the terrorists in accordance with the law.

More than 10 terrorist suspects attacked people at the square and ticket hall of Kunming Railway Station at 9:20 p.m. on Saturday, killing at least 28 civilians and injuring 113 others.

Police shot dead five attackers and are hunting for the rest.

Further investigation from Xinhua News reveal that the knife attack was orchestrated by a separatist group, according to evidence found on the scene as relayed by China’s government officials.

The Xinjiang group killed at least 29 people, rising from the original number of 27 earlier reported. Although the investigation is ongoing, the trains at Kunming and other stations are running as scheduled.

Xinjiang militants have been in conflict with China since 1997, claiming that the region belongs to them by way of legal right. They are led by Islamist militants engaged in freeing themselves from the clutches of the Chinese government rule.
