Paramount Pictures is giving new and old fans a serious blast from the past by announcing that Beverly Hills Cop IV has just been greenlit for a 2016 release date.

Via The Wrap:

Paramount is getting serious about bringing Axel Foley back to theaters, setting “Beverly Hills Cop” for release on March 25, 2016.

Eddie Murphy will reprise his star-making role as a Detroit cop, and the latest sequel will find him returning to the Motor City.

Brett Ratner will direct the film from a script by Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec.

Jerry Bruckheimer will produce “Beverly Hills Cop,” as he has been part of the franchise since the first film in 1984.

“Beverly Hills Cop” will open against WB’s sci-fi adventure movie “Geostorm” starring Gerard Butler.

The last installment of Beverly Cops was released in 1994 and made nearly $120 million at the box-office.

CBS is also planning a television series starring Brandon T. Jackson, featuring him doing the exact same thing as he did in 2011’s Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son. Playing the star detective’s heir apparent.
