The late, great King of Pop just got through performing “Slave to the Rhythm” at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards, and left people in awe, star struck, and confused as to why it happened in the first place.

With a new album that’s burning up the charts, Michael Jackson has gone through a career resurgence as of late. To commemorate the moment, ABC and Billboard promised music fans a “historical” televised appearance by the former Motown singer-songwriter. The only issue is that the man born Michael Joseph Jackson has been gone from the land of the living for five years now.

While that wasn’t enough to stop the powers-that-be from pushing the button on holo-Jackson, it did provide the Twittersphere with a lot of things to talk about. Produced by Dick Clark Productions and choreographed by The Talauega Brothers, the Michael Jackson performance was the result of nearly half a year of planning, choreography, and filming. No one saw anything regarding the development of the production until eight days before the broadcast, according to Billboard.com.

The upbeat dance number, which appears on Michael’s posthumously released XSCAPE album, is helping to fuel the global icon’s return to the number one spot. As holo-Jackson impressed new audiences with his twirls and moonwalks, Twitizens around the world reacted to the singer’s brief return to the spotlight.

We collected the 20 best reactions to Michael Jackson’s “Slave to the Rhythm” Billboard Music Awards performance. Scroll through to see who said what, and leave your thoughts in the comments section below.
