During our interview with F. Gary Gray a few months ago, the esteemed director explained how he had to part with a few worthy scenes during the final edit of the summer blockbuster, Straight Outta Compton. Thankfully in the world of home entertainment, there isn’t a time length put on greatness, thus the Straight Outta Compton unrated director’s cut will be jam-packed with more depth of the story of N.W.A a.k.a. the world’s most dangerous group.

In the wake of its release, arguably the best Hip-Hop biopic of all time has amassed more than $200 million worldwide and the box office’s biggest R-rated August opening of all time. Those numbers also make it the biggest music biopic ever created and subsequently made Gray the top-grossing Black director for a single film.

On January 5, 2016, the Straight Outta Compton unrated director’s cut will arrive on digital HD where as the Blu-ray™, DVD and On Demand versions will be released on January 19. Universal Music Enterprises (UMe) will also align music with the rollout by releasing Straight Outta Compton: The Soundtrack and Straight Outta Compton: Original Motion Picture Score. The former will see N.W.A classics such as the explosive title track, “Express Yourself” and “Quiet On Tha Set” get the remaster treatment while the latter will feature music composed and conducted by Joseph Trapanese, and produced by Bryan Lawson and Joseph Trapanese. Both collections will release worldwide on all digital and CD formats on January 8, 2016, with Straight Outta Compton: The Soundtrack being pressed as a 2-LP vinyl set.

New features for the Straight Outta Compton unrated director’s cut include deleted scenes, a behind-the-scenes revisit of that infamous Detroit performance and feature commentary from F. Gary Gray.

The film captured the breakout efforts of O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Ice Cube), Corey Hawkins (Dr. Dre), Jason Mitchell (the late Eazy-E), Neil Brown, Jr. (DJ Yella) and Aldis Hodge (MC Ren).
