The new collection teams the 30-year-old with designer Alejandro Ingelmo, whose product line includes both women’s and men’s shoes. “I got a request from his stylist and he became a customer of mine and started wearing my stuff,” Ingelmo said in an interview with SlamOnline.com. “I would make special orders for him since I usually don’t make his size. He approached me and asked if I would be the creative director for what he was working on. It was a natural…He already liked my stuff so it made sense.”
As far as the design, Wade’s has been hands on in putting together the line. “He’s already given me some guidelines and things he wanted out of the shoe,” Ingelmo added. “It’s a collaboration, it’s an open conversation between us.”
In preparation for his own release, Wade left Jordan Brand in October, to sign a deal with Li-Ning, a Chinese athletic brand. “Jordan might have that cool factor, but I’m at a different point in my career. I want to be involved in building something,” he told ESPN.
