Sports host Erin Andrews was awarded $55 million Monday (March 7), for being secretly taped naked in a Nashville Marriott hotel eight years ago. A jury comprised of mostly women deliberated for one day before finding the hotel, and franchise owner, Michael Barrett, responsible for the invasion of privacy.

Andrews had sought $75 million in the suit. Barrett was found 51 percent liable and ordered to pay $28 million, while the hotel is at fault for $26 million. “I would like to thank the Nashville court, the court personnel and the jury for their service,” Andrews said in a statement after court.

“The support I’ve received from the people of Nashville has been overwhelming, the statement continues.“I would also like thank my family, friends and legal team. I’ve been honored by all the support victims around the world. Their outreach has helped me be able to stand up and hold accountable those whose job it is to protect everyone’s safety, security and privacy.”

Barrett was sentenced to 30 months in prison for stalking and recording Andrews in 2011, and he isn’t likely to pay the money. This means that the hotel is on the hook for the remaining balance, and once Andrews pays lawyers and taxes, her take-home could be much smaller. Per TMZ, Andrews is will only see about $6 million since the hotel is expected to appeal and settle for around $20 million.

Video of Andrews walking around nude in her hotel, has been viewed more than 17 million times since its 2009 release. On the stand last week, she tearfully recounted seeing herself naked on the Web for the first time, and the traveling paranoia the experience has caused.

The New York Daily News points out that Andrews’ $55 million emotional distress victory is excessive by comparison to Eric Garner’s family who was settled for just under $6 million after he was choked to death by an NYPD officer.
