A Florida mother is facing questions after she was discovered in her pickup truck suffering from a gunshot wound. Authorities investigating the matter say that the mom was accidentally shot in the back by her four-year-old on who was sitting in the back seat.

Jamie Gilt, 31, of Jacksonville, was riding with her son on Tuesday when officers noticed she was driving strangely. Upon approaching her vehicle, officers discovered she was suffering from a gunshot wound as reported by Action News Jax.

Putnam deputies are trying to figure out how a toddler got his hands on a .45 caliber handgun before he accidentally shot his mother as she drove down a highway Tuesday afternoon.

Putnam deputies found a truck and horse trailer in the middle of travel lanes on Highway 20 near Rowland Avenue just after 3 p.m.

Police said the 4-year-old shot his mother through the back of her seat as she was driving.

She was taken to UF Health and is in stable condition, according to deputies.

The 4-year-old is now with family members.

CBS News adds that a Facebook page has been getting some media attention that features an image of Gilt holding a gun and wearing a cowboy hat. She was reportedly on her way to pick up a horse. Gilt is currently in a hospital in Gainesville where she is said to be in stable condition.
