The lovely Dashca Polanco has made a name for herself both as a standout star on Netflix’s hit drama Orange Is The New Black, but also as a rising fashion maven. However, Ms. Polanco blasted high-end designers for not dressing her for the many red carpet events she attends because of her size.

Polanco sat down with VOGUE magazine for a discussion about fashion, being so-called “plus-size,” and how designers have rebuffed her requests for clothes based on her size. Polanco isn’t exactly throwing a pity party and says she’ll continue to embrace her curves and stand up for others who aren’t ashamed of their bodies.

From VOGUE:

“I had a situation with a high-end brand the other day where I had personally invested so much money purchasing their items, and I love what they do, so I had my publicist reach out to their PR team. Their response was, “Oh, you’re not the sizes we have, not right now, maybe in the future,” says Polanco, who is not above holding a grudge. “Now even if they want me  to [wear their designs] down the road, I will not give them the pleasure. It’s disappointing, but I try to work with up-and-coming designers who will make things for me and who will collaborate with me. People who love my curves and embrace them as much as I do.”

Polanco adds that she realizes that she isn’t the fashion industry’s preferred size but has decided to not let that dull her desire to be fabulous as she can be.

“Online, a lot of the feedback is that people would love for me to show my body more! They love when I wear something tight, they love when I wear something see-through; they love when I wear stuff that just embraces every bit of my curves,” said Polanco.

There’s also talk of a personal fashion line to come, but Polanco hasn’t yet set a formal date for its release.
