Rick Ross, the rapper, and “Freeway” Ricky Ross, the former Los Angeles drug kingpin, are still battling over their names. The latter has maintained for years that the MMG rapper Rozay has been exploiting and profiting off of his reputation and name.

The New York Post reports

`that a number of notable music executive will be testifying at a new trial this summer.

Rapper Rick, whose real name is William Roberts, is said to have adopted his stage name from the former cocaine kingpin, infamous for running a drug empire in LA in the 1980s. Drug dealer Ross, who went to jail in 1996 and got out in 2009, says his name has been “exploited and misused since he went to prison and . . . [the rapper] made millions off Ross’ name.” The trial is set for LA in August, and ex-Warner honcho L yor Cohen, current CEO Stephen Cooper and Warner director Edgar Bronfman Jr. are expected to testify.

Last year, Freeway Ricky Ross was ordered to pay $500,000 of Rozay’s legal fees. The minor setback didn’t stop  him from pursuing his case, stating shortly after that he intended on deposing Lyor Cohen, Todd Moskowitz and Sean “Diddy” Combs.

AllHipHop reports that in Los Angeles on January 9, 2013, Judge Rita Miller set an August 27 date for a trial by jury over the use of the name “Rick Ross.”

It’s just the latest in an ongoing saga that has found the reformed drug dealer turned community activist doggedly pursuing his case. Freeway Ricky Ross first sued Rick Ross (born William Roberts) in June 2010 for trademark infringement to the tune of $10 million. However, the case was dismissed less than a month later. After various appeals, in Juy 2012, Freeway was able to file a lawsuit against Warner Bros. Records, which markets and promotes Rick Ross the rapper’s Maybach Music Group.

The trial finally goes down August 27, 2013.
