Officials at Chicago O’Hare had some interesting cargo arrive last month: human heads.

18 severed human heads, “still covered in skin,” were shipped to the airport as part of  “medical research,” and were claimed Tuesday (Jan. 15).

Despite not having bodies attached to them, the heads were able to make it all the way from Italy, with the Windy City being their final airport destination.

The heads were claimed by a crematorium and will be released upon the confirmation of proper paperwork. “They were properly preserved and tagged as human specimens,” assured Tony Brucci, chief investigator for the medical examiner’s office.

Brian Bell, a spokesman for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced that the heads were indeed medical specimens and couldn’t understand why the idea of a bunch of human heads coming to the airport is bizarre. “Everybody here is ‘Oh my gosh, you got a box of heads’ and everybody think that it’s unheard of,” he vented. “It is a potentially legitimate medical shipment. We’ve seen it at various ports in the nation.”

Bell also noted that there is “nothing against the law” barring the shipment of  a bunch of human heads provided that they have the “right documentation.”

Beginning their journey from the U.S. to Rome, now that the human heads have made it back, they will be cremated, once released by the FBI.
