Talib Kweli‘s Prisoner of Conscious featured a gem in the Curren$y and Kendrick Lamar-assisted jam, “Push Thru.” Each MC effectively shared their take on overcoming struggle, but the soundscape was devoid of the grit and grime often featured on tracks containing this topic matter. That changes with this remix courtesy of beatsmith Marco Polo, who put some dirty, but oh so clean MPC drums to work to create an appropriately gloomy track.

Fans would never guess that a beat like this was created by a Canada-born, Toronto native. But then again, Hip-Hop knows no boundaries these days.

A few of your favorite MCs have been receptive to Marco Polo’s classic street sound too. Some of his past production include KRS-One and Buckshot, the aforementioned Kweli, Boot Camp Clik, Large Professor, Pharoahe Monch, and more. Marco Polo’s sound can also be found on 2012 projects by Craig G and Vinnie Paz.

Hear the reworked version of “Push Thru” below.
