In a tragic event as a result of retaliation, the family of a Navy sailor was executed earlier today.

Taking place near Mexico City, more than a dozen hit men rushed into the home of the family and murdered the mother, sister, and aunt of Melquisedet Angulo Cordova while two of his brothers were badly wounded, according to reports from the Mexican media.

Such an attack was a response to Cordova, who was engaged in a battle last week and took the life of drug lord Arturo Beltran Leyva.

The sailor was praised by President Felipe Calderon for his efforts and was recognized by all Mexicans for his bravery during the battle that took place in the central city of Cuernavaca.

Cordova, however, did not survive the battle either, as he died and was buried only hours before the gunmen took the lives of his family members.  He was the recipient of a military honor guard.

As previously reported, Leyva was the head of a drug trafficking organization that distributed billions of dollars worth of cocaine and marijuana to the United States and was also known around for brutality.

With his demise, Mexican officials are now speculating that Leyva’s position will be taken over by one of him lieutenants.  The actions of the gunmen gives an indication that the organization is still up and running even in light of their leader’s death.

Although recognized by Mexico, the mass murder illustrates a major fail on the part of the Mexican government as it pertains to their war on deterring drug gangs and their ability to maintain a person’s protection that is engaging in the war against such gangs.
