As one of the standouts of the Wu-Tang Clan, Ol’ Dirty Bastard helped form the mystique of the legendary rap collective with his aggressive yet zany rhyming style and image. Although his untimely death in 2004 shook fans and the Clan to the core, it has been confirmed that the “Brooklyn Zoo” rapper will appear on his crew’s 20th anniversary album, A Better Tomorrow.
Sitting with The Line Of Best Fit, Inpectah Deck and Masta Killa spoke about ODB’s posthumous contributions to the upcoming record.
“RZA has a bunch of Ol’ Dirty tracks and verses that for years nobody’s heard and, from my last conversation [with RZA], we’re supposed to have an Ol’ Dirty track on there,” shared Deck. “It may be by itself or we might join it on to another song. But Ol’ Dirty is going to be part of this album, that’s a fact.”
Although RZA has been quoted as saying A Better Tomorrow may be the Clan’s last hurrah, Deck and Masta Killa both expressed a desire to continue recording as a unit. “I feel young, young enough to do like three more,”Inspectah Deck said.
“At the end of our shows, we always ask the fans ‘How many of you out there want another Wu-Tang Clan album?’ and the whole crowd scream. That motivation is my motivation,” added Masta Killa.
A Better Tomorrow is slated for a November release.
