Keyshia Cole’s husband, Daniel Boobie Gibson, doesn’t play when his wife is involved. The NBA player assaulted another man during the Essence Music Festival weekend earlier in the month, for a “profane” verbal attack on the Bay Area native.
Although it was originally reported that Gibson was arrested, the 27-year-old actually turned himself in.
Daniel “Boobie” Gibson tells TMZ … he was just defending his wife’s honor when he got into an altercation with a man at the Essence Music Festival earlier this month … after the guy disrespected Keyshia Cole in a “profane way.”
Gibson — who played with the Cleveland Cavaliers last season — just called in to “TMZ Live” to explain why he turned himself in to police in New Orleans today on 2nd degree battery charges.
Boobie says Keyshia was performing at the event … when some guy approached her and spouted off some very “disrespectful” comments toward the singer.
Boobie says an altercation broke out and “safety was threatened” … so Boobie says he “needed to take action.”
Despite the allegations against him, Boobie says he did nothing wrong — adding, “I have nothing to be ashamed of or hide.”
Cole has been on the receiving in of hate lately, mainly over not wanting to be called Black (she’s bi-racial, but doesn’t know the identity of her father), airing a not-so-nice critique of Beyoncé’s Superbowl halftime show, and pulling out of a hometown show because she wasn’t headlining.
Nonetheless, the married mother of one is staying positive. After a fan tweeted “no more fighting” she responded, “I been off that!”
