Must it always be a black & white thing? Keyshia Cole made news recently when after an interview on BET’s 106 & Park some assumed her being initially unsure about performing at 2012’s Black Girls Rock show was because she is bi-racial. Needless to say the backlash was swift, with plenty of people wondering if Cole had lost her mind. The singer recently took to Twitter clarify her statement.

While on 106 & Park, Cole stated, “I’m bi-racial but it’s okay…I’m Black, I’m Black… At first I was kind of skeptical about being a part of the Black Girls Rock organization but then when I read on it and I realized how strengthening it is for our Black women and women in general, how strengthening it is for us to come together and understand that no matter what, we rock. I’m so happy to be a part of it.”

With the Internets chattering that Cole didn’t consider herself Black since her father is thought to be Caucasian, she took to Twitter to clarify her comments. “#BlackGirlsRock first off I feel ALLGIRLSROCK!! And by the way, I don’t not know what I’m mixed with, nor have I tried to find out/…,” tweeted Cole. “I was raised in Oakland. My mother is a black woman HOWEVER I do not know my father. Nor really car to know! Was thankful to be apart of..  I had to just do research. Didn’t know what the organization was about in the beginning. But uplifting young ladies is… What I’m damn sure about! Don’t get it twisted!”

Cole then added, ” People talking about I said I’m not black? Wtf.. People are crazy! They will take your words and do what they want with them! #GetaLife.”

And there you have it. Keyshia Cole is a certified Soul sista. However, everyone please refer to the one drop rule for all future reference.
