R&B singer Usher has released a statement about the near drowning of his 5-year-old son and namesake, Usher Raymond V. Meanwhile, the child’s mother and the crooner’s ex-wife, Tameka Raymond, is seeking custody of their two children because she claims their father is not around enough.

On Wednesday (August 7), Usher gave People an update on the incident and his eldest son’s health. “I would like to thank my Aunt Rena as well as the doctors and nurses who are working with us around the clock. I would especially like to thank the two men who saved my son’s life, Eugene Stachurski and Ben Crews,” said the singer via a statement. “They are true heroes and I am deeply grateful to them.”

The “You Don’t Have To Call” singer added, “I am blessed and fortunate to say that my son Usher V is doing well and is recovering. I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of prayers, love and support for my family’s well-being.”

Tameka Raymond has been with her son in the hospital around the clock. She is reportedly seeking custody of the child and his brother Naviyd Ely, 4, which was previoulys granted to Usher, by requesting an emergency hearing. According to TMZ, she filed the docs in Fulton County, GA, saying he is creating a dangerous environment for his children by constantly leaving them in the care of others.

Good luck with that.
