Just Blaze spoke with us exclusively and weighed in on Kendrick Lamar’s “Control” verse along with other big news. Last night (August 13), a pair of his peers, 9th Wonder and Young Guru, added their two cents to the ongoing discussion.

Jamla Records CEO 9th Wonder held a listening session for Rapsody’s upcoming She Got Game mixtape at Firehouse Studios in New York. Backstage, the North Carolina producer and Young Guru debated the impact of “Control” and Nodfactor caught the whole thing on tape.

“Joell came real good but it wasn’t the knockout blow,” Young Guru said of Joell Ortiz’s response record, the first high-profile artist to do so. ”He hit me up too and said ‘it’s up’ and I said ‘hmm it’s a B+.’ The n—a put up 50 points and you put up 30.”

Guru also speculated on when a New York struggle rapper would add his take on the record, even predicting the actual time the song would drop.

“What’s gonna happen next, and I say around 8 or 9, that was my next prediction, now you’re gonna have a sub par NY rapper gonna come out with some sh-t that’s gonna be just OK. That’s gonna be around 9 o’clock,” added Guru.
