The Heartbreak Kid Wishes Wrestling A Fond Farewell
Supposedly wanting to go out like his friend and mentor Ric Flair, HBK had a match with The Undertaker at WrestleMania XXVI where if he lost he would be forced to retire. The Dead Man’s streak had yet to be blemished with a lost and, as a result of being caught mid-air and slammed with a Tombstone Piledriver, the Heartbreak Kid’s legacy was ended with a 1-2-3 count. The next night, on the March 29 episode of RAW, Michaels gave an emotional farewell speech, saying, “Shawn Michaels has left the building.”
