Blogger Byron Crawford has been on a writing tear of late, releasing his third book, NaS Lost: A Tribute To The Little Homey last week. In a recent interview, Crawford covered a variety of topics including the book, gay rappers, Kendrick Lamar‘s “Control (HOF)” verse, and much more.

Speaking with ANIMAL New York, Crawford wastes little time in getting to the meat of what NaS Lost is all about.

NaS Lost is a look at the ups and downs of Nas’ career, from the release of Illmatic in 1994, widely considered one of the best rap albums of all time, to years and years of personal creative failure, along with the occasional later-career triumph, like his beef with Jay-Z in ’01, and the release of his album Life Is Good last year,” shared Crawford.

Crawford, never one to let a moment pass him by, weighed in Kendrick Lamar’s bold move. “Kendrick Lamar is a talented kid, but he might be letting the fawning praise for good kid, mAAd city go to his head,” said Crawford. “Comparing himself to the likes of Nas, Jay Z and Eminem just seems silly to me.”

During the rest of the Q&A session, Crawford takes shots at Papoose and Joell Ortiz, says that a gay rapper wouldn’t fare well in Hip-Hop today, and details his obsession with Harry Potter actress, Emma Watson – to whom he dedicated his latest book to.
