For much of 2012, it appeared that Wiz Khalifa’s Taylor Gang had a good thing going with Washington. D.C. native Lola Monroe on their roster. A couple of weeks back the label announced splitting ties with the curvy rapper, and she mentioned the situation briefly in an interview with Hip-HopWired.

On location at the 2013 BET Hip Hop Awards in Atlanta, we got a chance to speak with Lola Monroe as she opened up to us about being a mother. She and Bad Boy rapper Los are parents to an infant son, Brixton Royal, and it appears motherhood will figure prominently in her music as well.

“It’s been amazing, it’s been life changing,” said the radiant artist. “My son, he’s like the most amazing thing in the world. And musically, it’s just been progressing. I spent my whole year recording and locked myself in the studio.”

Just a few weeks ago Lola Monroe released “B.B.” featuring Taylor Gang artists Juicy J and Chevy Woods, but that was before the label made the announcement. According to our chat with her, the Ethiopian-born artist was never signed to Taylor Gang.

“I mean you can’t get dropped unless you’re signed,” said Lola Monroe with a sly grin. “Plain and simple, business is business and you keep it moving during certain circumstances but at the end of the day it’s all love as far as a personal level.”

Lola Monroe’s Lipstick & Pistols mixtape was released at the top of the year and an untitled album is currently in the works.
