“I love his music and I’m a big fan of Bob Marley and the whole family.”
The uniting of Hip-Hop and reggae set to commence in Nas and Damian Marley’s Distant Relatives album is still forthcoming.
Just last week a song from the album hit the net, “Strong Will Continue”, detailing having the strength to endure in unfortunate circumstances.
Now Nas is speaking out on the collaboration and says it pays homage to Hip-Hop and reggae who he deems as “distant relatives.”
In an interview with the Miami Herald Nas says that two genres are kin and likens them to cousins.
“Reggae and hip-hop are cousins. Go back before the ’90s and think about the music that was playing on the ghetto blasters and you’ll hear it…the whole world is like family, split up all over the place.”
He also adds that while this isn’t the first time he’s worked with a reggae artist, he’s honored to work with the son of the legendary Bob Marley.
“I’ve worked with a lot of reggae artists, like Sizzla and Supercat, but not until Jamrock did I get a chance to work with Damian. I love his music and I’m a big fan of Bob Marley and the whole family.”
A portion of proceeds from Distant Relatives will be donated to Africa.
The album is scheduled to drop in the spring.
