A few days ago we would have said blackface was the epitome of Halloween struggle, then we saw this. A clearly racist Virginia mother allowed her 7-year-old to wear, and go trick or treating, in a KKK costume for Halloween, and is proudly defending her decision.
The f-ckery in this story is exponential. For starters, the family’s last name is Black. The mother, Jessica Black of Craigsville, VA, proudly revealed dressing like white hooded racists was a family tradition, pointing that her brother wore a similar outfit a couple of times, including when he was in kindergarten. Also, she made the costume herself at her young son Jackson Black’s request, after he saw Fried Green Tomatoes.
Apparently, mother Black is a proud supporter of the Klan in Craigsville. “It’s suppose to be white with white. Black with black. Man with woman and all of that,” she said. “That’s what the KKK stands for.”
Yes, the Klan surely stands for such beliefs. Also, besides awarding scholarships, as she proudly pointed out, the cowards who hide behind white sheets routinely intimidated Black people with burning crosses and lynchings, too. So there’s that.
Hey, dressing up your kid like a Klansman is your right. It’s also well within your rights to be an idiot.
