Flipping exclusive sneakers for a higher price has sadly become a norm consumers have to deal with, but it appears that there’s consequences to doing so if you’re a NCAA player. Just ask Oregon Ducks starting point guard Dominic Artis and forward Ben Carter, who were both suspended for selling player exclusive Nike Air Jordan sneakers reserved for team members for lofty prices.
Doing so was a violation of NCAA rules; particularly bylaw 16.11.2.1, which prohibits the sale of team-issued apparel for personal gain. As punishment, Artis and Carter will be out for an undetermined amount of games. They also have to donate the value of the shoes to charity.
That should be a nice amount of dollars, considering that many of the Ducks’ exclusive Jordans are valued at $5ooo and over.
“I want to apologize to the University, to Coach Altman and to my teammates for selling team apparel. I regret my actions and do not want this situation to define me or my character,” Artis said regretfully in a statement.
Carter also spoke his peace. “As a student-athlete at Oregon, I recognize that I have a responsibility to represent our team and our University at all times with the utmost of integrity,” he said. “I regret the decision to sell the apparel and I am grateful to the NCAA and to the University for the opportunity to make amends”
