Unbeknownst to a considerable portion of his current fanbase, Wiz Khalifa dabbled in dance/techno while he was still trying to hone in on a signature sound. Back in 2008, he was a young artist on a Warner Bros. label that wasn’t quite sure what to do with the future rap star. In attempts to build a buzz, the Taylor Gang king cut a record named, “Say Yeah” which featured a beat that heavily relied on Alice Deejay’s “Better Off Alone” sample.
He since has strayed away from that path but like a senior Michael Corleone married to the game, Dorrough Music has pulled him “right back in.”
Dorrough and producer duo, Play-N-Skillz both call the big state of Texas home but they’ve hammered out a sound totally opposite of what’s expected to come out of the Lone Star region.
Their new collaboration shares its melody and chorus from Germany pop group, ATC’s “Around the World (La La La La La).”
Obviously it’s not new territory for Young Khalifa. And Play-N-Skillz actually did work on David Guetta’s pop-rap collage, “Where Them Girls At.” As for Dorrough, he likes to keep his deck shuffled, aiming to be the jack of all trades.
Give the song a listen and see if it meets the needs of your musical palate.
