DC Comics has put in work on the small screen with hit shows such as CW’s Smallville and current smash, Arrow. But the game is surely going to change after the announcement of Fox’s Gotham series, which will feature the early days of Commissioner Gord0n and some of Batman‘s top villains as well.

Gotham was previously announced last fall, and producers essentially crushed the dreams of everyone by saying Batman will not be featured in the program according to an exclusive report from Deadline. It appears there’s been a slight change of plans as a young Bruce Wayne will also be featured in the program, but the cape won’t make an appearance until the series ends according to news on Monday (January 13).

From Deadline:

Fox chairman Kevin Reilly today announced that the series will include all of the classic Batman villains as well as heroes, including young Bruce Wayne.

“The show will arc a young Bruce Wayne from a child (around 12) into the final episode of the series, when he will put on the cape,” he said. Also on tap are the Riddler, Catwoman, the Joker and the Penguin. “We will see how they get to become who they are as Gotham is teetering on the edge,” Reilly said. “It is an operatic soap that has a slightly larger-than-life quality.”

Although the cast has not been formed as of yet, Warner Bros. Television has given the green light to a pilot program as writers will begin meeting next month to work on the series itself. Bruno Heller, who created the CBS hit drama The Mentalist, is behind Gotham coming to fruition.

In the DC Comics universe, Batman and Superman are its most viable properties.

Have any idea who should play the young Commissioner Gordon? What about a 12-year-old Bruce Wayne? Let us know in the comments.
