Each summer, The Roots curate one of the more underrated festivals around with their Roots Picnic. This marks the seventh year the show will invade Penn’s Landing in the group’s native Philadelphia, and today, ?uestlove unveiled a brief video to announce the performers.
Along with the legendary Roots crew, West Coast veteran Snoop Dogg and funky singer-songwriter Janelle Monáe will headline the annual event. It’s worth noting that headliners are usually backed by the Grammy winning band. A list of other performers include A$AP Ferg, Action Bronson, The War On Drugs, ARABMUZIK, Rudimental, Just Blaze, Bad Rabbits, Biz Markie, and Jhené Aiko.
If we’re lucky, The Roots will premiere a jam or two from their forthcoming concept album, …And Then You Shoot Your Cousin.
The seventh annual Roots Picnic takes place on May 31, which slightly earlier than usual. See ?uestlove’s announcement in the clip below. The official show bill can be seen on the following page. Let us know if you’ll be in Philly this year for the show.
