A 14-year-old Nigerian bride killed her 35-year-old- husband and three others at a party celebrating their nuptials, earlier this month.

Wasila Umari poisoned the groom, Umaru Sani because she was upset about having to marry a man she “did not love.”

A dozen people were invited to the celebration in the Ungwar Yansoro village. Sani and another friend died the day of the party, the two others died a day later.

The teen admitted to buying rat poison from a market and putting it into a rice dish. Nigerian superintendent Musa Magaji Majia told the Associated Press. “The suspect confessed to committing the crime and said she did it because she was forced to marry a man she did not love,” Majia said.

She will be charged with culpable homicide.

Nigeria reportedly holds some of the highest percentages of child brides around the world. Particularly in the Northern region where close to 50 percent of girls are married by age 15, and 78 percent by age 18.

According to the UNICEF more than 140 million girls around the world will be forced into marriage before the age of 18, with 50 million younger than 15.
