Colin Kaepernick has denied any wrongdoing on his part regarding a woman who says she may have been victim to a sexual assault after she woke up naked and high.

The star San Francisco 49ers quarterback still hasn’t been formally charged with the crime, nor fellow NFL player buddies Quinton Patton and Ricardo Lockett–who were also in the vicinity of the incident–but his ball club is treading very lightly on the situation.

They have reportedly put a hold on the multi-million dollar contract negotiations Kaepernick has worked very hard to earn.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Thursday on “NFL Total Access” that the 49ers have tabled negotiations while police investigate an incident earlier this month at a Miami hotel.

A public information officer said last Thursday that the investigation was in “the early stages.”

The goal for the Niners and Kaepernick remains getting a new deal done before the start of the 2014 season. According to Rapoport, negotiations were not going well and the sides are not close on a monster deal that is expected to exceed $18 million per year.

Being far apart in talks is better than not talking at all, of course. Both sides wait for clarity in Miami.

Kaepernick isn’t the only 49er tackled with struggle the organization has had to deal with this offseason. Linebacker Aldon Smith was recently arrested for his role in a bomb threat hoax at Los Angeles International Airport.
