During yesterday’s taping of 106 & Park, the 2014 XXL Freshmen were revealed to the world. It featured a healthy conglomerate of artists from all over the globe starring August Alsina, Chance the Rapper, Isaiah Rashad, Jarren Benton, Jon Connor, Kevin Gates, Lil Bibby, Lil Durk, Rich Homie Quan, Troy Ave, Ty Dolla $ign and Vic Mensa.
And then the inevitable backlash happened Twitterwide, sparking hours of debate.
Perhaps the most interesting argument was posed by sharp-witted MC Rapsody, who challenged the magazine’s selection process in full. She made note how was it possibly she was impactful enough for their recently released top 20 female rappers list but her buzz wasn’t good enough for this year’s crop, a statement back by her producer 9th Wonder.
