An Illinois man has been awarded $8 million in damages after an appeals court ruled that he was wrongfully convicted for the rape and murder of his 3-year-old daughter.

The ruling comes after an intense court battle by Kevin Fox and his wife Melissa in 2007. Fox spent eight months in jail for the crime before being cleared by DNA evidence.

The appeals court ruled that investigator’s decision to rule out the child’s death at the hands of a sexual predator “absurd” and that police had “exceedingly weak evidence” used to arrest Fox.

He was arrested four months after the death of his daughter Riley who was sexually assaulted, bound with duct tape and drowned.

Fox will be awarded $8,166,000, a cut from the original $12.2 million a jury agreed to award him.

Riley’s murder remains unsolved.

Too bad they can’t do anything to give this man his reputation back.

SMH….such a shame.
