Guillermo del Toro’s sci-fi action thriller Pacific Rim made good on its budget and brought in a gross of $411 million worldwide. So it comes as no surprise that Warner Bros. is set to rollout a sequel in Pacific Rim 2 and cartoon to keep the party going.

Via Deadline:

The Oscar-nominated filmmaker takes a break from working on Crimson Peak in Toronto to tell “Legendary fans” to expect a new TV toon based on Pacific Rim, along with the continuation of the coming book series that started with Year Zero.

Universal has dated the 3D pic for April 7, 2017. Del Toro, Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni, Mary Parent and Callum Greene are producing, with Jillian Share as exec producer. The original starred Charlie Hannum and Idris Elba as pilots of giant machines that battle massive sea creatures that threaten mankind. It was up for six VES Awards in February but was swept aside by eventual visual effects Oscar winner Gravity. The sequel’s only release-date competition thus far is Fox’s animated Ferdinand.

In a brief YouTube announce, del Toro let every report go down as a fact. Watch it below.
