It has been a helluva year for Kid Ink. And the Cali native is making things more..hellavu for himself by rolling out his sophomore effort while tunes from his debut is still popular amongst listeners across the country.
The tatted-up star has officially released “Body Language,” the new single from his RCA follow-up to this year’s My Own Lane. Keeping it line with his successful track record, the breezy record is aimed at ladies but still remains credible enough for the fellas to catch the vibe. It’s also backed by the golden octaves of both Usher and Tinashe, so its appeal is doubled by the name recognition alone.
In a recent interview with MTV, the Inkster discusses his decision to drop “Body Language” on an anniversary date that’s significant to him. “Last year, we dropped ‘Show Me’ the day after Labor Day Weekend,” he said. “So I found it a great occasion to keep things rolling and kick off my next wave.”
“We had an amazing ride following the success of ‘Show Me,’ as well as the follow-up ‘Main Chick’ — both records were with DJ Mustard and Chris Brown,” Inks manager, Ill Will, added. “I am super excited about this new single, because it will show that Ink is a true hit-maker and will continue to be a part of hit records regardless who the supporting cast is.”
Having a big star like Usher would generally take some finagling, but the veteran vocalist revealed to Billboard that his next album has been iced indefinitely and he just wants to kick it with people with famous faces.
The album isn’t scheduled anymore. I’ve basically taken it back. I’m taking my time with it,” he tells Billboard. “At the end of the day, all of this is just about having fun. You get in the studio [and] go with how you feel.” “It’s not about a specific topic or specific period of my life. I work on 40-50 songs in making an album,” he says of UR, his eighth studio album. “I haven’t finished the album enough to tell you what I’m talking about.”
