Last night in Los Angeles, a lofty standard was set midway through Red Bull Sound Select Presents: 30 Days in LA concert series.

Run the Jewels closed out a smashing show, first propped up by Thurz and Mystery Skulls for a crowd hungry for that headbanging, rap ‘n roll. The ambiguously ill duo (and Trackstar the DJ) are currently glowing with the universal critical acclaim from their Run the Jewels 2 album and its aura bled into the night’s area at the Echoplex in the heart of L.A.’s Echo Park. Killer Mike powered through with a missing voice from the previous night’s Cali show but still made sure all his bars were intact for hits like “36,” “Oh My Darling Don’t Cry” and “A Christmas F*cking Miracle.” El-P made sure to have back the entire way through, as did special guests Gangsta Boo, Travis Barker and Zack de la Rocha of Rage Against the Machine fame.

Thurz wasn’t too shy on sharing the stage either, as he brought out DJ Quik for his nocturnal classic, “Tonite” and the Overdoz. for a special rendition of “Big Bang” from the new Designer EP. The hometown hero was dressed debonair, never square, to fully convey the melodic rhythms he was bestowing onto the crowd and all iPhone users were given a digital download of the project to be saved for the next date.
