“I would say this is a movie with a bunch of characters that grew up on rap, and we don’t question. We don’t even call it Hip-Hop, it’s just music. We treat it like it’s any other music. In most movies they treat rap music or Hip-Hop music like it’s this new thing.—Chris Rock
The Writing Is Sharp, But So Is The Editing
“I treated editing like it was writing again.”—Chris Rock
“Whatever Chris the hell does, he better put me in it, first of all. When someone calls JB, they want the over the top JB. I didn’t have to play the over the top crazy JB. I’m happy that I got a chance to play a role that this guy want to play. He helped me because my range has now increased.—JB Smoove
Every Casting Made Sense
“I kept calling [Chris Rock] a conductor. It can be noise, or it can be music. You can have all these incredible people and it might not work. Every single person, there was something slightly different. He knew what everybody’s sweet spot was.”—Rosario Dawson
This Scene Right Here, Though.
Real tears.
If You Like Chris Rock Jokes, You’ll Like This Film
“I made this movie just like my stand up. I put it all together. I workshopped it a long time, just like my stand up. That was goal, to get a movie that felt like my stand up.”—Chris Rock
