Earlier this week, a pretty forceful statement was made when J. Cole topped the Billboard 200 after selling 360,000 copies of his third album, 2014 Forest Hills Drive with very minimal promotion and no singles on the radio. To quote Young Simba himself, maybe [the industry] needs to “stop serving trash?” While the verdict is out whether the album will set a new precedence quality wise, one thing’s for sure, there have been a gang of albums that have shared the same success as J. Cole’s album without a sliver of the durability.
