“If you’re wondering what the NBA record is for most points in a quarter, you just watched it,” an announcer said in light of jaw dropping 37 point performance from Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson.
A win was in reach for the Sacramento Kings at the top of the third quarter, but life soon come at the team fast. Thompson began getting buckets in every imaginable way, breaking the 33 point record held by George Gervin and Carmelo Anthony in the process.
Let’s put Thompson’s onslaught of shots in perspective. He didn’t score until the 10-minute mark, and didn’t truly get in rhythm until halfway through the quarter. Mind you, he went 13-for-13, nine of which were three pointers.
In turn, Thompson also snatched record for three pointers in a quarter Michael Redd and Joe Johnson, each of whom had eight. And he tied the record for field goals in a quarter set by David Thompson.
Thompson began the quarter with 13 and ended with 50. He finished the game with 52. And yes, Golden State won 126-101.
That boy good.
