The passion Thought (born Tariq Trotter) embodies when discussing how the contributions his new love for being a fashion tastemaker is enormous. Sort of like the meticulous detail he’s put into his rhymes with The Roots over the past 20 years, making him revered as one of the most formidable MCs to ever wreck a mic. Those skills and philanthropist spirit will become one in the same on February 12 in NYC when he’ll be performing solo in continuance for raising awareness of his Moscot movement. Thought tells us that fans can expect “live musicianship and a human digital beat box” from Johnny Ellis so prepare for an “experience.”

He goes to say how the Moscot pairing is just the beginning for what he plans to do in the fashion world.

“It’s also my introduction to the world as a designer. There are a bunch of other things that I’ll be doing in the years to come in with regards to fashion and I wanted the first thing that I did to be quality, super reputable and solid. I made a conscious effort to make a frame that was unisex and had neutral stylings. I went with the gradient lens and the classic Grunya frames so it wouldn’t look ‘super douchey,'” he says with a laugh.

Moscot & Black Thought’s Limited Edition Black Tortoise GRUNYA frames are available here with 100% of the proceeds benefitting the GrassROOTS Community Foundation and The MOSCOT Mobileyes Foundation. Tickets for the upcoming show in NYC can be purchased here. More pictures of the collaboration can be seen on the following page.
