Welfare and food stamp fraud has been a talking point of conservatives for years, especially during the reign of President Barack Obama. However, 30 white folks in upstate New York were arrested for food stamp fraud thus shifting a commonly held and incorrect narrative.
Based on numbers from the USDA, white dominate Blacks in receiving food stamp and welfare benefits 40 to 26 percent respectively. But most wouldn’t know that considering how often Blacks and other races are assailed in the media for using government assistance.
Over the past two months, police in Brushton, N.Y. have arrested 30 persons for varying degrees of food stamp fraud. According to local media outlets, the fraud operation had been on the radar of authorities for quite some time.

New York State Police-Malone say the transactions occurred at Old Time Butcher Block Store in Brushton, and the owner 45-year-old Dennis Sauve of North Bangor was arrested on Jan. 16 and charged with third-degree grand larceny and misuse of food stamps.
Police say the arrests are the result of a year-long investigation, initiated by the Franklin County Department of Social Services Fraud Unit. Franklin County District Attorney’s Office, the United States Department of Agriculture, and the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance helped with the investigation.
WCAX reports that even more connected to this case will be arrested. The station also noted that Sauve has been in trouble for food stamp fraud in times past.
We probably won’t hear much from Republicans and conservatives about how vicious a crime this was. Imagine if those arrested were Black though?
