Marvel Studios is upping the ante with its upcoming Daredevil series on Netflix, and today fans were introduced to the hero’s top nemesis, Wilson Fisk aka The Kingpin. Vincent D’Onofrio plays the role of the tough crime boss, who battles with Charlie Cox‘s Matt Murdock/Daredevil character.
As we shared last month, Marvel’s Daredevil will premiere all 13 of its one-hour episodes on Netflix next month. For those unfamiliar, brilliant attorney Matt Murdock was blinded as a child but gifted with extraordinary senses that makes his lack of sight nearly an afterthought. Billed in the comics as the “Man Without Fear,” Murdock takes on crime in the day as a lawyer and at night in the tough streets of Hell’s Kitchen in New York.
D’Onofrio, who starred for 10 seasons as Det. Robert Goren on NBC’s Law & Order: Criminal Intent, steps into the role of Fisk, a brutal and genius-level crime lord who uses his massive size to inflict physical damage with the best of them. At 6-foot-4, D’Onofrio definitely fits the mega-sized bill for the role. Fans might recall the late Michael Clarke Duncan played Wilson Fisk in Marvel’s film adaptation of Daredevil.
A press release explains the tug-of-war between Fisk and Daredevil below:
The shadowy figure behind organized crime in Hell’s Kitchen, Wilson Fisk has one mission in mind: to save Hell’s Kitchen by any means necessary, no matter the cost. This immediately puts him at odds with Matt Murdock’s vigilante alter-ego, who also seeks to protect the city – but sees the criminal element as the root of the city’s problems. Central to this conflict is that Fisk truly believes he’s doing good for Hell’s Kitchen and at times may seem more of a hero to its people than Daredevil. Intelligent, complex and physically imposing, Wilson Fisk is the perfect foil for Matt Murdock, and the two will collide dramatically in Marvel’s Daredevil.
