It’s going down for real. Hip-Hop superstars Flo Rida and Sage The Gemini were able to spin a fairly generic phrase and spin it into a bona fide smash hit last October. When you consider the uphill battle most artists endure just to churn out a semi-popular hit, their accomplishment is pretty impressive.

The executive producers behind the Furious 7 OST seemed to think so as they immediately scooped it up for the movie’s soundtrack to give the promotional vehicles that nitro boost as the film speeded past box office records this past weekend. While out and about at REVOLT TV’s Furious 7 takeover, Hip-Hop Wired caught up with both vocalists of the platinum-selling record (produced by DJ Frank E, Andrew Cedar, Lookas and Miles Beard) to see how they cooked up that crack.

“It was very organic,” the “Low” superstar recalls of encountering his Bay Area collaborator in the studio to create “G.D.F.R.” Flo is no stranger to making movie music pop as his hits like “Right Round” and “Jump” have propelled the soundtracks to The Hangover and G-Force, respectively. Sage spoke of a similar experience and admits he expected some what of hulking bully but managed to develop an instant chemistry to slay the track.

He also knows a thing or two about platinum and gold as both “Gas Pedal” and “Red Nose” were created by his cerebellum and he revealed to us that 2015 is the first year he’s ever been “excited” for what’s to come. Uh oh. As for their collaboration, the Furious 7 OST just debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 so popping bottles is definitely on the menu.

Watch the quick-hitter exclusive interview up top and grab “G.D.F.R.” on iTunes if you’ve yet to do so. The music video can be found on the next page.
