Former NFL player, pro-football hall of famer, and broadcaster, Frank Gifford passed away Sunday (Aug. 9). Gifford, 84, died from natural causes at his Connecticut home.

His wife, Kathie Lee Giford, and children released a joint statement. “It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father and friend, Frank Gifford,” said Gifford’s loved ones.

“Frank died suddenly this beautiful Sunday morning of natural causes at his Connecticut home. We rejoice in the extraordinary life he was privileged to live, and we feel grateful and blessed to have been loved by such an amazing human being. We ask that our privacy be respected at this difficult time and we thank you for your prayers.”

Gifford played his entire 12-year NFL career with that New York Giants. He retired in 1961, following a head injury, and was inducted in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1977.

He married second wife, Kathie Lee, in 1986. The couple share two childcare, while Gifford has three children from a previous marriage, and five grandchildren.
