Joseph Gordon-Levitt is well known as one of the top actors of his generation, but nothing could have prepared fans for his latest star-making turn. Gordon-Levitt was a competitor on Spike TV’s Lip Sync Battle and blew everyone away with his rendition of Janet Jackson‘s “Rhythm Nation.”

US Magazine reports:

“Rhythm Nation” has a new leader. Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s performance on Spike TV’s Lip Sync Battle has to be seen to be believed — and even then, you might find yourself doing a double take.

The Night Before actor, 34, absolutely slayed Janet Jackson’s 1989 hit “Rhythm Nation,” nailing every detail from the outfit (a near exact replica to the one from Jackson’s video) to the choreography, which he and a team of backup dancers executed with stunning precision.

Even Levitt’s competitor on the show, Anthony Mackie, was in awe of the performance. He and host LL Cool J watched, jaws dropped, as JGL’s masterpiece unfolded before them.

Mackie’s rendition of MC Hammer’s “2 Legit 2 Quit” was impressive, too, but Levitt stole the show — and Mackie knew it. (We love them both, regardless.)
