Hot 97’s Ebro Darden won’t ever be accused of being tight-lipped. The outspoken radio personality proved as much after he said that Rae Sremmurd didn’t write their own verses, which prompted their producer, Mike WiLL-Made It to respond.

Darden invited to the studio Thursday a collective of Complex music editors and a staff writer  to discuss the publication’s Top 50 Songs and Albums of 2015 list. While Darden largely agreed with the listing, he took issue with Rae Sremmurd’s ranking being as high as it was. Complex’s Damien Scott defended their decision to rank the Mississippi two-man rap team highly as they did by way of the impact of their songs and the density of their lyrics.

This seemed to perturb Hot 97 co-host Peter Rosenberg and prompted Darden to challenge Scott. He then recounted a time where he had Rae Sremmurd in his radio studio and asked for an on-air freestyle. Darden says the duo ran out of the room, which the host says affirm the fact they lacked the skill for bars.

“They didn’t write that sh*t. Any of it,” said Darden. “Mike WiLL Made-It. You know that his name is Mike WiLL-Made It? He made that album. They’re Kriss Kross, that’s what they are. It was a fabricated thing that we all liked.”

Darden did say that it’s possible Swae Lee and Slim Jimmy are developing their skills but maintain his stance in his passionate fashion. Mike WiLL Made-It went on a fiery Twitter run last night, blasting Darden’s comments.

“[I]f Sremm didn’t write they raps who tf did,” tweeted Mike WiLL to Darden Thursday night.

Darden fired back with, “Drummer’s Ear & You. And them some. Stop it.”

After a little back and forth, Mike WiLL had words for anyone questioning his crew.
