Donald Trump and his shoot it from the hip speaking style was on display again earlier this week when the GOP presidential hopeful was in Grand Rapids, Mich. Trump said that Democratic Party presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton got “schlonged” in the 2008 elections but has since tried to dial down his insult.
On Monday (Dec. 21), Trump was campaigning in Michigan where he made a woefully sexist remark about Clinton’s clash with President Barack Obama during the 2008 primaries. As reported by Think Progress, the term “schlong” typically refers to the penis but Trump attempted to say he didn’t actually mean it in that fashion.
Trump defended the crude statement via Twitter last night, although his explanation could be questioned.
“When I said that Hillary Clinton got schlonged by Obama, it meant got beaten badly. The media knows this. Often used word in politics!” tweeted Trump.
Unexpectedly, Twitter seized upon Trump’s gaffe and explanation by sparking the “#ReplaceAWordWithSchlong” hashtag with some mildly hilarious results here and there.
Under the possible circumstances that Trump truly believes the word schlong means to beat, why not just say Clinton was defeated in the 2008 elections? But because the business mogul knows how to whip up a frenzy with his words, his tactics to bring attention to himself via controversy won out once more.
