Last November, 9-year-old Tyshawn Lee was walking to his grandmother’s house when he was lured into an alley in Chicago, where he was murdered execution style. Now after months of investigations Chicago PD have formally charged 22-year-old Dwright Boone-Doty with first-degree murder in the heinous death of Lee and also the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Brianna Jenkins which took place on the 18th of October last year.

The 22-year old gunman had been paroled just two months prior to killing Jenkins after serving two years on a five-year bid. Lee was murdered just three weeks after Jenkins.

Police believe that the 9-year-old child was targeted because of his father’s rival gang ties and his involvement in the shootings that have rocked the community of Auburn Gresham.

Reports the Chicago Tribune:

Law enforcement sources have told the Tribune that the bloody conflict involves rival factions of two of Chicago’s oldest gangs — the Gangster Disciples and the Black P Stones. Police believe the Terror Dome faction of the Black P Stones targeted the child because his father, a convicted felon, reputedly belongs to the Gangster Disciples’ Killa Ward faction.

Chicago police and Cook County prosecutors allege Tyshawn’s killing was at least the fourth in a series of retaliatory shootings in a feud between factions in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood with ties to two of Chicago’s most historic gangs — Killa Ward of the Gangster Disciples and Terror Dome of the Black P Stones.

As the times change so do the code to the streets, but when innocent women and children become game, Shakespear’s quote of “The sins of the father are to be laid upon the children” gets incorporated into a way of life. We as people have to look ourselves in the mirror and reevaluate what we’re becoming.

Stay safe out there and protect our women, children and future.
