An employee of a South Florida Burger King stole more than $20,000 worth of food, and $3200 in cash after being with the company for just under a month. When 54-year-old  William Simmons Sr. was arrested Monday (April 25), he told police that he stole from BK to pay off a drug debt.

Simmons, who is a registered sex offender with a lengthy arrest record,  started working at the location on March 29. He reportedly lifted $3,191.10 from the register, in addition to the thousands he jacked in sausage patties, biscuits, and other Burger King food items.

Police began investigating last weekend when a manager busted Simmons on surveillance camera leaving the restaurant door unlocked (so the alarm wouldn’t go off), and sneaking back inside. The video also caught him taking money from the register.

Simmons said he only jacked the company for $300 and claims he’s not the only one. “Everyone made sandwiches to take home with take home with them,” said Simmons.

Snitching on his co-workers didn’t stop the legal ramifications. Simmons faces grand theft and burglary charges, and is being held at the Palm Beach County Jail on $15,000 bond.
