A rookie Florida cop was caught on tape using a handcuffed woman as a punching bag after she attempted to kick him. Akinyemi Borisade, 26, has been fired and charged with battery for attacking 31-year-old Mayra Martinez, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office announced.
Borisade unleashed on Martinez as she was being checked into the Duval County Jail Wednesday (April 28) evening. The security cam footage shows a handcuffed Martinez trying to kick Borisade and he responds by furiously punching her until she falls to the ground.
Martinez was arrested earlier in the day, during her first day working at Scores bar in Jacksonville. Cops arrived to the bar to find Martinez drunk and combative, according to a police report. She reportedly resisted arrest and tried to kick and bite the officers at the bar, and in the squad car.
An investigation into the incident was opened after corrections officers who witnessed the attack reported it to supervisors. The JSO subsequently made the video public.
“He could have turned her around and held her in a transporting position that they are trained in back over to the location to wait by the door,” Undersheriff Pat Ivey said. “He could have stood there with her, but there was no need to strike her.”
