Over the weekend the Bahamian Ministry of Foreign Affairs gave their Black men some advice—if they were to travel to the United States during what was their Independence Day weekend, they were to “exercise caution” when dealing with the police.

How embarrassing. We definitely get where Killer Mike was coming from.

Here is the issued statement:

We wish to advise all Bahamians traveling to the US but especially to the affected cities to exercise appropriate caution generally. In particular young males are asked to exercise extreme caution in affected cities in their interactions with the police. Do not be confrontational and cooperate.

If there is any issue please allow consular offices for The Bahamas to deal with the issues. Do not get involved in political or other demonstrations under any circumstances and avoid crowds.

Now, how is it that international governments see the risk of being a young Black man in the States but people of color have to keep explaining the root of #BlackLivesMatter to our fellow Americans?

As if the murders of Eric Garner, Mike Brown, Philando Castile, Alton Sterling and so many others are all simply a matter of coincidence. Something doesn’t add up and most everybody sees it, all around the globe.
